Electric vehicles have fewer moving parts, but they can still get flat tires, lockouts and — most commonly — run out of charge. Here's what EV drivers should know.
Running out of charge
Range drops in extreme heat or cold, at high speed and when using climate control heavily. Most EVs warn you well before the battery is empty and may limit power to help you reach a charger.
What roadside help can do
- EV emergency charge to get you to the nearest charging station
- Flat tire change or inflation (many EVs have no spare)
- Lockout service
- 12-volt battery jump start — yes, EVs have one too

Towing an EV
Many EVs shouldn't be towed with the drive wheels on the ground. If a tow is needed, tell your provider it's an EV so the right equipment is sent.
